Cross Storage — An AI-Powered Cloud Storage Utility

Design and engineering for Cross Storage, a cloud storage utility that uses AI to organise, find and make sense of files instead of simply holding them.

Most cloud storage is a folder you pay for. Cross Storage set out to be a utility that understands what it holds — organising uploads automatically, finding files by what they contain, and surfacing what matters. Vedspace took it from concept to a working product in fourteen weeks: secure storage and sync, an AI layer for classification and semantic search, and the apps and web client to use it.

01

The challenge

Two hard problems at once. Storage has to be boringly reliable — uploads that survive bad networks, sync that never loses a file, permissions that are airtight. AI has to be genuinely useful without being expensive, slow or unpredictable. The risk was building an impressive demo that could not be trusted with real files, or a solid store with a gimmick bolted on.

02

Our approach

We treated the storage core and the AI layer as two products with a defined contract between them. The core was built first and hardened: resumable uploads, conflict-safe sync, encryption at rest and roles modelled properly. The AI features were then assessed on the client’s own file sets for cost, latency and accuracy before we committed to them, and designed so the model provider can be replaced without touching the product. Search, auto-tagging and summaries shipped only once they cleared that bar. Everything was delivered in staged, reviewable releases.

03

Where it stands

Cross Storage shipped as a dependable store with AI features that hold up on real data — automatic organisation, natural-language search and summaries — with the provider swappable and costs understood before launch. Usage and retention figures are the client’s to share.
