Students manage money on thin margins with irregular income — allowances, part-time work, the odd stipend — and most finance apps are built for salaried adults. Stufin set out to be the one that fits how students actually live. Vedspace designed and built the app in ten weeks, from the assumptions to test through to a launch-ready product on iOS and Android.
The hard part was not the ledger, it was the behaviour. An app that nags gets deleted. An app that only records history does not change anything. Stufin had to be quick enough to use between lectures, smart enough to plan around a fee deadline, and encouraging enough that a student keeps opening it. It also had to be scoped as an MVP: learn fast, not build everything.
We scoped the first release around the one assumption that mattered — that students would plan, not just track, if planning took thirty seconds. Everything else was cut or deferred, and the trade-offs were written down. The design leans on fast capture, a simple monthly picture and goals tied to real dates like fees and rent. We built it cross-platform to reach both stores from one codebase, instrumented the key flows before launch, and shipped in staged releases so each one could be learned from.
Stufin reached the stores on schedule as a focused MVP with capture, planning and goals — and with the analytics in place to show what students actually do with it. What they do is the client’s data to share.
